My God Is REAL!

Hi Everyone,

I heard a remark recently which bothered me.

"Was Jesus a real person or was it just an epic movie like Hercules?"

It made me want to stand up and yell, "He is Real! I know He's real!"

It suddenly reminded me of when I was a small child and I'd sit with my mum and dad watching the epic movie, 'The Greatest Story ever told'. Yes, I know it was very Hollywood and not very accurate scripturally, but it had an impact on me, even though I was only 4 or 5 years old. There was just something special about that man Jesus.

I would sit there refusing to go to bed till they nailed Him to the cross, which would always make me cry, it still does! For some reason, I didn't know why but I loved that man Jesus and would go to bed wishing that I could have helped Him.

One day I overheard my mother telling a relative how I always cried at the crucifixion of Jesus and the lady laughed and replied 'that's silly! It's just a movie'. Even as a child I knew she was wrong, this man Jesus was real to me! I didn't understand it but I knew it!

So I grew up knowing about Jesus and God but never realised that I could have a personal relationship. I didn't quite understand why Jesus had to die, so many unanswered questions. Yet I knew He was real and that He lived somewhere in heaven up there. As I look back God's hand was on my life all along the way, revealing Himself in many ways. Yet it wasn't until I was in my mid-twenties that I had the revelation of WHO Jesus really was and is and that He died a horrible, painful, torturous death on that cross for me! And He did it for you too!

You see we were all dying in our sins and were on our way to hell, eternal darkness, separation from God forever, until He rescued us!

"For He has rescued us from the Kingdom of His dear Son, Who purchased our freedom with His Blood and forgave our sins" (Colossians 1:13-14)

The physical pain of crucifixion was bad enough, but He also suffered the pain of separation from His Father God. That's why He cried out "My God, My God, Why have you forsaken ME?" (Matthew 27:46).

We can never be complete until we are reunited with our Heavenly Father and Jesus is the only way that can happen. (John 14:6)

Colossians 2:10 says "You are complete through your union with Christ..."

It's as if every one of us is born with a hole in our hearts and we try to fill it in many ways but everything is so temporal and unfulfilling. It's only when we allow Jesus to fill that hole that we can be complete and fulfilled.

When I think of how much Jesus went through, all the mocking, beatings, ridicule, abandonment, abuse, unlawful trial and absolute torture, I ask myself "Are we really worth that much to God?", the answer is YES! (1 Peter 1:19)"He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ..." and do you know what's even more amazing to me? He did it not just for those who believed and have received Him as Lord and Saviour, but even for those who stood there yelling "Crucify Him!" (Matthew 27:22). Even for those who mock and reject Him and try to prove that He doesn't exist today! The scripture says "Only fools say in their hearts, 'there is no God'." (Psalm 53:1)

The truth is that one day everyone will stand before Him, whether we believe it or not!

Philippians 2:9-11 says. "At the Name of Jesus every knee will bow in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord."

That means even the demons in hell! I'm so thankful that He went to the cross for me! And after 36 years of salvation, He's still teaching me and revealing Himself to me. Yes, my God is real (Collossians 3:3). When we have Him in our lives we have everything.

(Psalm 23:1) "The Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need."

So over these next couple of weeks while you are enjoying all those easter eggs and yummy hot-cross buns, don't forget Jesus!

Stop and remember what He went through because He thought we were worth it.

Put yourself in that crowd on crucifixion day, imagine what it must have been like, imagine how He must have felt. Well, we will never quite fully know, but this I know He is real!! And He alone is worthy of all honour, all glory and of all our worship!

"All praise to Him Who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding His Blood for us." (Revelations 1:5)
